QuestionAnswer
Short Story A brief work of literature in which the characters and events are imagined by the author.
Plot A series of related events that include the conflict, the climax, and the resolution.
Sequence The order in which events occur.
Conflict Struggle between two opposing forces.
External conflict Pits characters against each other or against the forces of nature.
Internal conflict Pits a character against himself or herself.
Generational conflict A struggle between a mother and daughter (for example) due to the difference in their ages.
Dilemma A situation in which a person must choose between two equal alternatives.
Characterization The act of creating and developing a character.
Stereotype A fixed and oversimplified idea of what a person or group of people is like.
Character traits Those qualities that make a person unique.
Repetition The use again and again of a word or phrase, usually in poetry.
Refrain When a word or phrase appears in the same position in all or many stanzas of a poem.
Stanza The breaks in poems that are like paragraphs in a story.
Inference To guess at what is happening based on the information you know.
