| Term | Definition |

| outdoors | Any area outside buildings or shelter, typically that far away from human habitation. |
| indoors | The area or space inside a building. |
| occurrence | something that happens or exists a common/everyday/frequent/regular occurrence Vandalism used to be a rare occurrence here |
| death toll | the number of people killed in an accident, a war, a disaster, etc. |
| otherwise | used to state what the result would be if something did not happen or if the situation were different. |
| lessen | Make or become less; diminish. |
| injure | injure somebody/something/yourself to harm yourself or somebody else physically, especially in an accident. |
| struck | past tense, past participle of strikestrike something (+ adv./prep.) (formal) to hit or kick a ball, |
| homeless | having no home The program has been set up to help homeless people. |
| countless | very many; too many to be counted or mentioned. |
