Definitions of geometry terms

parallel lines in a plane that never meet
intersecting to share a common point or points
line one-dimensional straight path that extends forever in opposite directions
line segment a part of a line between and including two endpoints
right angle a 90 degree angle
closed figure simple 2-dimensional figure, including shapes with straight and curved sides
diagonal a straight line inside a shape that goes from one corner to another, but NOT an edge
kite a quadrilaterial with two pairs of adjacent sides of equal length
parallelogram a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides
perpendicular at right angles to
point an exact location in space, usually labeled with capital letters
quadrilateral a four-sided polygon
vertex/vertices the point at which the rays of an angle, the sides of a polygon, or the edges of a polyhedron meet.
circle a curved figure where all points on the edge are the same distance from the center point
figure a symbol or shape
property/attribute a feature of an object or common feature of a set of objects
rectangle quadrilateral, parallelogram, all right angle corners
rhombus/rhombi quadrilateral with all equal sides
side one of the line segments that make up a polygon, one of the rays that form an angle, or one of the faces of a polygon
square quadrilateral with equal sides and four right angles
trapezoid quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides
triangle polygon with 3 sides
