structure refers to composition and the arrangement of the simpler substances that make up matter
atom fundamental unit of matter
element simplest form of matter
element is made of one type of atom
compounds substances composed of more than one element- bound in fixed ratios ex. H2O- 2 hydrogen, 1 oxygen
molecule compounds that form groups of atoms
pure substances materials containing only one element or compound. ex: copper, water
mixture contains more than one subtances. ex: bronze= copper and tin, Brass= copper and zinc--- alloy metals
