FORCE 2C

2nd year force

QuestionAnswer
What is a force? Anything which causes an object to accelerate i.e to change its velocity
What is force measured in? A newton (N)
What is Push/Pull A force that changes an objects velocity and can cause it to go faster, slower , or stop
What is weight? -The force of gravity acting on a object which it pulls to a large body (e.g Earth) -Measured in Newtons -Varies depending on where you are
what is Friction A force that slows down moving objects by opposing sliding motion between two surfaces.
Whats is Electric Force A force that causes charged particles to move
What is magnetic force? A force that causes magnetic material to move
what is tension A pulling force on a string
What is the weight formula? Weight (N) = Mass (kg) × 10 (m/s2)
What is mass? - It is measured in kgs - Is fixed, never changes -Is a fixed property of all things like length or volume
What is the name of the scientist who discovered that two different masses accelerate math the same rate dropped from a height? Galileo
What is a lubricant? Something that reduces friction e.g oil, grease
What is the formula to calculate force? Force= Mass X Acceleration
What does the rule of balanced and unbalanced forces state? In tug of war, the forces can be unbalanced or if one team is stronger than the other the forces are unbalanced.
What does the rule of forces as pair state? Forces always occur in pairs; for every force there is an equal and opposite force e.g gun recoil
What does hooke's law state? The extension of an elastic material is directly proportional to the applied force producing the extension.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
