TermDefinition
Area the amount of space the shape covers; measured in square units
Perimeter is the distance around a figure
Base the bottom line of a 2D shape
Cube a 3D shape when all faces are the same size
Composite shapes are a combination of 2D shapes
Decompose to break down a shape into different shapes
Formula a mathematical rule that is written with symbols
Height how tall a shape is from the bottom to the top; has to be a straight line
Length how long a shape is from one side to the other
Parallelogram a shape with two pairs of parallel lines
Quadrilateral any shape with four sides
Rectangle a shape with four straight lines and four right angles
Rectangular Prism a 3D shape that has 6 faces, two of which are rectangles
Trapezoid a four sided shape that has only one pair of parallel sides
Width distance across from side to side
Volume the amount of space an object takes up
pi 3.14
arc a part of a circle between and including two endpoints on the circle; named by its endpoints
centre of a circle the point in the plane of a circle equally distant from all points on the circle
radius of a circle a line segment from the centre of a circle or sphere to any point on the circle or sphere; half of the diameter
perimeter the distance around the boundary of a 2-dimensional figure
circumference the perimeter of a circle
diameter a line segment that passes through the centre of a circle or sphere and has endpoints on the circle or sphere
