| adapt | change to suit one's environment |
| aquatic | living in water |
| grassland | a large area covered with wild grass |
| tundra | a large flat area without trees in very cold parts of the world |
| boreal | refering to the climate and region of the Arctic |
| pine | a type of evergreen tree with leaves like needles |
| fir | an evergreen tree that we usually decorate at Christmas |
| seed | a small hard part of a plant from which a new plant grows |
| cone | the dry fruit of a pine or fir tree |
| needle | the pointy leaf of a pine or fir tree |
| grizzly bear | a large brown bear |
| racoon | a small animal with gey fur and a striped tail |
| hibernate | sleep through the winter |
| woodpecker | a small bird that lives in trees and makes holes in wood to find food |
| migrate | move from one par of the world to aanother because of the season |
| temperate | with mild temperatures |
| oak | a type of large tree with very hard wood used for making furniture |
| maple | a tree with distinctive leaves that have five points |
| deer | an animal that lives in forests and has got long legs and horns |
| coyote | a wild animal similar to a dog |
| population | the number of people or animals that live in an area |
