conjunction | used to join words or phrases; examples include *for, *and, *nor, *but, *or, *yet, *so |
interjection | expresses strong feeling; often followed by an exclamation mark; examples include "Yikes!", "Hurray!" |
adverb | describes a verb, an adjective, or an adverb; tells how, when, where |
adjective | describes a noun or a pronoun; tells how many, whose, which one, what kind |
verb | shows action or a state of being; examples include *run, *play, *speak, *is, *are |
pronoun | replaces a noun in a sentence; examples include *I, *we, *he, *she, *them, *you |
noun | a person, place, thing, or idea; examples include *child, *desk, *Alabama, *freedom, *Aubie |
