Lesson 28-29 Vocab

QuestionAnswer
Mean The average value of the data set; the sum of all the values divided by the number of values
Data Set Group of values produced by survey or sample
Mean Absolute Deviation the average difference (distance) of each data point from the mean
Deviation The difference (distance) from the mean and a single value
Dot Plot A statistical chart with data points plotted on a simple scale
Measures of Center A value that identifies the central position of the data set
MAD Mean Absolute Deviation
Spread The range of the values in a data set; the difference between the highest and lowest value
Distribution Putting the values on a scale to demonstrate the spread
Compare Note or find the similarity or dissimilarity
Consistent Reliable, unchanging
First Quartile (aka Lower Quartile) The middle number of all values, less than the median
Third Quartile (aka Upper Quartile) The middle number of all the values, greater than the median
Variability The degree to which the data in a data set are spread out
Box Plot A chart that summarizes the centers and spreads of the distributions of data
