Estar and ser mean... To be
Estar is used .. To say how you feel and where you are (conditional- can change)
I am in the house Estoy en la casa
The curtains are in front of the window. Las cortinas están delante de la ventana
Ser is used to talk about... What something is (permanent state), characteristics that are essential to what we are talking about
The living room is big. La casa es grande. (ser-description)
The arm chair is white. El sillón es blanco. (ser-description)
The arm chair is far from the stairs. El sillón está lejos de las escaleras. (estar-position)
The chairs are blue. Las sillas son azules. (ser-description)
Las sillas están en la cocina. The chairs are in the kitchen. (estar-location)
We are not in the school. No estamos en la escuela. (estar-location)
We are sad. Estamos tristes. (Estar-emotion-temporary)
He is a student. El es estudiante. (ser-occupation)
