| Origin | The point of attachment that does not move when the muscle contracts. |
| Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) | A cushion of fluid around the brain and spinal cord. |
| Embryology | The process of prenatal development. |
| Ganglion | A swelling at the end of a root nerve. |
| Spinal nerve | 31 pairs of nerves connected to each vertebra of the spinal cord. |
| Mixed nerve | Nerves that contain both motor and sensory fibers. |
| Thermoreceptor | Receptors that are activated by temperature. |
| Photoreceptor | A receptor in the eye that detects light. |
