| Term | Definition |

| Triangle | A 3-sided polygon. |
| Equilateral triangle | A triangle that has three congruent side lengths and three angles measuring 60°. |
| Isosceles triangle | A triangle that has two congruent side lengths. |
| Scalene triangle | A triangle where all three sides are different lengths. |
| Acute triangle | A triangle with three acute angles. (Three angles each measuring less than 90°.) |
| Right triangle | A triangle with exactly one right angle. (One angle measuring exactly 90°.) |
| Obtuse triangle | A triangle with exactly one obtuse angle. (One angle measuring greater than 90°.) |
| Quadrilateral | A polygon with four sides, four angles, and four vertices. |
| Square | A quadrilateral with four equal side lengths and four angles measuring 90°. |
| Rectangle | A quadrilateral with four angles measuring 90°. |
| Rhombus | A quadrilateral with four equivalent side lengths. |
| Parallelogram | A quadrilateral with two sets of opposite, parallel sides. |
| Trapezoid | A quadrilateral with one set of parallel sides that are opposite one another. |
| Altitude | Commonly referred to as height. Altitude is always perpendicular to the base of the figure. |
