Shapes

TermDefinition
Triangle A 3-sided polygon.
Equilateral triangle A triangle that has three congruent side lengths and three angles measuring 60°.
Isosceles triangle A triangle that has two congruent side lengths.
Scalene triangle A triangle where all three sides are different lengths.
Acute triangle A triangle with three acute angles. (Three angles each measuring less than 90°.)
Right triangle A triangle with exactly one right angle. (One angle measuring exactly 90°.)
Obtuse triangle A triangle with exactly one obtuse angle. (One angle measuring greater than 90°.)
Quadrilateral A polygon with four sides, four angles, and four vertices.
Square A quadrilateral with four equal side lengths and four angles measuring 90°.
Rectangle A quadrilateral with four angles measuring 90°.
Rhombus A quadrilateral with four equivalent side lengths.
Parallelogram A quadrilateral with two sets of opposite, parallel sides.
Trapezoid A quadrilateral with one set of parallel sides that are opposite one another.
Altitude Commonly referred to as height. Altitude is always perpendicular to the base of the figure.
