Vocabulary found in Expressions and Equations
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Algebraic Expression | Contains at least one variable and at least one operation. |
| Evaluate | Find the value of, the algebraic expression |
| Numerical expression | a combination of numbers and operations |
| Order of Operations | Tells you which operation to perform first so that everyone finds the same value for an expression |
| Powers | Numbers expressed using exponents. For example 100 is a power of 10 (10 squared or 10 to the 2nd power) |
| Perfect Squares | Numbers that are the squares of whole numbers. For example 25 (5x5) or 100 (10x10) |
| Base | When working with exponents the base is the number used as a factor. For example: 10 to the 2nd power - 10 is the base. |
| Exponent | Tells how many times the base is used as a factor. For example: 10 to the 2nd power - the exponent is 2. |
