political party organized group of people who have the same ideology
two party a party system where two major political parties dominate the political landscape

ward an administrative division of a city or borough that typically elects and is represented by a councilor or councilors
political machine a political group in which an authoritative leader or small group command the support of a corps of supporters and businesses, who receive rewards for their efforts
direct primary functions as a preliminary election whereby voters decide their party's candidates
closed primary People may vote in a party's primary only if they are registered members of that party prior to election day
open primary a primary election in which voters are not required to declare party affiliation.

petition a formal written request, typically one signed by many people, appealing to authority with respect to a particular cause
