Customary and Metric Conversion Vocabulary

Capacity The maximum amount that something can contain.
Gallon A unit of liquid capacity equal to four quarts.
Quart A unit of liquid capacity equal to two pints or four cups.
Pint A unit of liquid capacity equal to two cups.
Cup A unit of liquid capacity equal to eight ounces.
Liter A unit of metric capacity.
Milliliter A unit of metric capacity equal to one thousandth of a liter.
Ounce A unit of capacity equal to one sixteenth of a pint.
Inch A unit of measure equal to one twelfth of a foot.
Foot A unit of measurement equal to twelve inches.
Yard A unit of measurement equal to three feet or 36 inches.
Mile A unit of measurement equal to 5,280 feet or 1, 760 yards.
Pound A unit of measurement equal to 16 ounces
Acre A unit of measurement equal to 4,840 sq. yds.
Ton A unit of measure equal to 2,000 pounds.
