Fractions
| Term | Definition |

| equivalent fractions | fractions that represent the same number or quantity |
| mixed number | a number made up of a whole number and a fraction |
| fraction | a number that represents part of a whole or part of a set |
| numerator | The number written above the line in a fraction. It tells how many equal parts are being used |
| denominator | The bottom number in a fraction |
| improper fraction | a fraction in with a numerator that is greater than or equal to the denominator |
| simplest form | a fraction in which the numerator and the denominator have no common factor greater than 1 |
| prime number | a whole number that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself. |
| composite number | a whole number that has more than two factors |
| greatest common factor | the greatest of the common factors of two or more numbers |
| benchmark fraction | Common fractions used for estimating, such as 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, & 3/4. |
| least common multiple | The smallest multiple (other than zero) that two or more numbers have in common. |
