Frequency How often an event occurred
Population Entire collection of people, animals, plants, or things that someone is interested in learning about.
Probability A number between 0 and 1 that measures how likely an event will occur
Probability Simulation The use of a tool to generate outcomes that are consistent with a given probability model
Random sample A sample that uses a process to ensure that every different sample has the same chance of being selected
Sample A part of a population
Sample Space The set of all possible outcomes
Average Mean
Compound event Events made up of two or more simple events
Outcome Possible result of a probability experiment
Trial Each repetition or observation of an experiment
Experimental probability Ratio of the number of times an event occurs to the number of trials
Impossible There is no way this outcome can occur
Certain You will always get this outcome
Equally likely This outcome will occur exactly half of the time
Formula for finding probability Observed/total
Theoretical probability The number of favorable outcomes/ number of possible outcomes. What you expect to happen
Fewer than Everything less than
