quotient answer to a division equation
remainder the amount leftover when a number does not divide evenly
dividend the number being divided
divisor the number you are dividing by
equation a mathematical sentence that contains an equals sign.
expression a mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers, and/or variables without an equal sign.
factors numbers you multiply together to get a product
fact family a group of related facts using the same numbers
multiple a product of a given whole number and any other whole number.
identity property of multiplication if you multiply a number by one, the product is the same as that number.
commutative property of multiplication changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
Associative Property of Multiplication changing the grouping of three or more factors does not change the product.
product the answer to a multiplication problem
zero property of multiplication the product of any number and zero is zero.
decimal point a dot (.) separating the whole number from the fraction in decimal notation.
place value the value of a digit based on its position within a number
exponents the number that is small and raised to show how many times to multiply the number by itself.
powers of 10 the number of times 10 is multiplied by itself.
compatible numbers numbers that are easy to compute mentally
rounding finding the approximate value of a number
