Unit 10: Data Analysis

asymmetrical one half is not not a mirror reflection of the other
categorical (qualitative) data categories including characteristics, for example, names, ages, locations and occupations or personal preferences, for example, food, clothes and leisure activities.
data distribution describes the shape of a data set when displayed on a histogram
interquartile range (IQR) a measure of spread equal to the upper quartile (Q3) minus the lower quartile (Q1) in a data set
mean the total of all the scores or amounts, divided by, how many scores or amounts there were; also called average
measures of center measures that describe a data set by identifying the 'center' or middlemost value by a single number
measures of spread measures that describe how spread out or scattered the values in a data set are
median a measure of center which is the middle value of an ordered set of data values
mode a measure of center which is the value that occurs the most
outlier a value far away from most of the rest in a set of data.
quantitative data that can be quantified by counting or measuring
quartile a type of grouping which divides the number of data points into four more or less equal parts, or quarters
range the difference between the lowest and highest values in a data set
skew data is distributed off center
spread describes the variability of a data set
symmetrical one half is a mirror image of the other half
data a collection of information gathered by observation, questioning or measurement
variability a measure of variety in data
clustered numbers which tend to crowd around a particular point in a set of data values
minimum lowest or least amount or value
maximum highest or greatest amount or value
