Multiplication and Division of Whole Numbers by a Fraction

TermDefinition
Numerator The number above the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts of the whole or group are being considered.
Denominator The number below the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts are in the whole or in the group.
Unit Fraction The number above the bar has a value of 1.
Reciprocal A fraction when the numerator and the denominator a switched.
Improper Fraction The number above the bar is larger than the number below the bar.
Proper Fraction The number above the bar is smaller than the number below the bar.
Simplest Form A fraction is in simplest form when the numerator and denominator have only 1 as a common factor.
