Sentence Structure
| Term | Definition |

| Subject | who or what the sentence is about; always a noun or pronoun |
| Predicate | what the subject is doing; always a verb |
| Fragment | a group of words missing a subject, predicate, and/or does not express a complete thought |
| Run-On Sentence | a group of words that includes more than one simple sentence without proper punctuation |
| Comma Splice | two independent clauses separated only by a comma, making it a run-on sentence |
| Independent Clause | a group of words that contains a subject, predicate, and expresses a complete thought |
| Dependent Clause | a group of words that contains a subject and predicate, but does not express a complete thought; begins with a subordinating conjunction or relative pronoun |
