Short Stories

TermDefinition
Plot a word or term to describe the actions that make up a story
Introduction we are introduced to the characters and problems they have
rising action a series of incidents that create suspense, intrest and tension
internal conflict personal weakness or problem
external conflict can affect a character within another person or time
falling action after the climax and towards the very end
climax the most exciting/ important point of the story
resolution an answer to a problem
character someone who takes a role in a story
protagonist the main character, like a hero, they have a goal
antagonist the opposite of protagonist, frequently a villian
round like real people, they have more then one trait
secondary only have one or few traits
flat doesn't change throughout the story
dynamic someone who goes through an important change because of something that happens in the story
setting the location and time
physical setting an exact location and timing
social setting the culture and beliefs of the story
atmosphere the mood that takes place in the story
imagery a term used for language and description that appels to our five senses
connotation saying one thing but meaning another
