Short Stories
| Term | Definition |

| Plot | a word or term to describe the actions that make up a story |
| Introduction | we are introduced to the characters and problems they have |
| rising action | a series of incidents that create suspense, intrest and tension |
| internal conflict | personal weakness or problem |
| external conflict | can affect a character within another person or time |
| falling action | after the climax and towards the very end |
| climax | the most exciting/ important point of the story |
| resolution | an answer to a problem |
| character | someone who takes a role in a story |
| protagonist | the main character, like a hero, they have a goal |
| antagonist | the opposite of protagonist, frequently a villian |
| round | like real people, they have more then one trait |
| secondary | only have one or few traits |
| flat | doesn't change throughout the story |
| dynamic | someone who goes through an important change because of something that happens in the story |
| setting | the location and time |
| physical setting | an exact location and timing |
| social setting | the culture and beliefs of the story |
| atmosphere | the mood that takes place in the story |
| imagery | a term used for language and description that appels to our five senses |
| connotation | saying one thing but meaning another |
