Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Atom The smallest part of an element. The building blocks of matter.
Element Pure substance that can not be broken down into anything simpler. All matter is made out of it.
Molecule The combination of 2 or more atoms.
Compound The joining together of 2 or more elements to form a new substance.
Mixture Combination of two or more substances that do not lose their identifying characteristics.
Solution Is a mixture in which one substance dissolves in another.
Examples of a Mixture Chex Mix, jar of coins, Lucky Charms
Examples of a Solution Kool Aid, Salt Water
Examples of a Compound H2O (water), NaCl (salt)
Examples of Elements Gold, Hydrogen, Oxygen
