Atom the smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element
Compound a substance made up of atoms or ions of two or more different elements joined by a chemical bond.
Crystal natural solid substance that has a definite shape
Deposition the process where sediment is laid down, after being eroded from its original location
Element a substance that can not be separated or broken down into simpler substance by chemical means
Erosion the process where sediment is transported from one place to another
Igneous Rock type of rock that forms when lava or magma cools solidified
Luster The way in which a mineral reflects light
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
Metamorphic Rock type of rock that forms due to intense underground heat and pressure
Mineral naturally formed substances that are the building blocks of rocks
Rift Zone an area of deep cracks that forms between two tectonic plates that are pulling away from each other
Rock Cycle the series of processes that change rocks from one type to another
Sedimentary Rock type of rock and some pieces of other rocks that were compressed and cemented together
Streak the color of a mineral in powdered form
Subsidence sinking of regions of the Earth's crust to lower elevation
Uplift the rising of regions of the Earth's crust to higher elevations
Weathering The natural process by which atmospheric and environmental agents, such as wind, rain, and temperature changes, disintegrate and decompose rocks
