Fraction vocab

TermDefinition
Denominator The part of a fraction written below the fraction bar that tells the total number of equal parts in a whole or set.
Numerator The part of a fraction written above the fraction bar that tells the number of fractional parts.
Fraction A number in the form A/B. where a and b are whole numbers and b is not equal to zero. Example : 1/3 & 2/4
Unit Fraction Represents one part of a whole that has been divided into equal parts.
Halves Splitting a whole thing into 2 equal parts.
Fourths Splitting a whole into 4 equal parts.
Thirds Splitting a whole into 3 equal parts.
Sixths Splitting a whole into 6 equal parts.
Eighths Splitting a whole into 8 equal parts.
