Causa: We need to fight for our rights. Necesitamos luchar por nuestros derechos.
Motivo: They are raising money for charity. Están recaudando dinero para la caridad. Este ejemplo es para porque indica finalidad: (como goal) (no sirve por) Un ejemplo con para sería: Le di dinero por caridad; aquí caridad es el motivo, no la finalidad.
Razon: I have an explanation for my behaviour. Tengo una explicación por mi comportamiento., se admite pero pero solemos decir: Tengo una explicación sobre mi comportamiento.
Lugar aproximado: The car is in the water. El coche está por el agua. / El auto está en el agua. No sirve este ejemplo porque al decir agua decimos en el agua, tal como lo ha traducido google; Si se usa por cuando hablamos del mar, río, océano; por ejemplo: está navegando por el Mediterráneo.
Paso a través de un lugar: The peloton passed through the city. El pelotón pasó por la ciudad.
Espacio recorrido: The train to Gijon passes through Puerto de Pajares El tren a Gijón pasa por Puerto de Pajares.
Tiempo aproximado: I went to Italy for my holidays. Fui a Italia por mis vacaciones.
Periodicidad: He goes to the dentist twice a year. Va al dentista dos veces por año.
Agente en frase pasiva: The damage was caused by the graffiti artists. El daño fue causado por artistas de graffitti. / El daño fue causado por los grafiteros.
Medio: They went to Ibiza on the plane. Fueron a Ibiza por avión. / Fueron a Ibiza en avión.
Distribucion: There is one t-shirt per person. Hay una camiseta por persona. / Hay una camiseta por persona.
Equivalencia: The prize was a box of chocolates in place of a lemon cake. El premio fue una caja de bombones en lugar de un pastel de limón. No sirve este ejemplo Mejor decir: Te cambio (doy) una caja de bombones por una tarta de limón. I exchange (give) a chocolate box for a lemon cake.
Precio: We sold our car for six thousand five hundred and thirty one euros. Vendimos nuestro coche por seis mil quinientos treinta y un euros.
Velociadad: The motobike accelerates to one hundred kilometres per hour in three seconds. La moto acelera a cien kilómetros por hora en tres segundos.
