Chemistry Unit 7
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Reversible Reaction | Products can react to re-form the reactants |
Inhibitor | slows down reaction rate or prevents reaction from happening |
Equilibrium | Rate of forward reaction equals rate of reverse reaction and the concentrations of products and reactants remain unchanged |
Activated Complex | the maximum energy point along the reaction path |
Catalyst | a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction, but is not consumed by the reaction |
Activation Energy | the minimum energy that must be input to a chemical system with potential reactants to cause a chemical reaction |
Collision Theory | qualitatively explains how chemical reactions occur and why reaction rates differ for different reactions |
Entropy | measure of degree of randomness as particles move; |
LeChatelier's Principle | If a stress is applied to a system at equilibrium the system shifts in the direction that relieves the stress |
Reaction Rate | change in concentration of a reactant or product per unit of time |
