AP Seminar

(Practice) Team Research Project Oral Defense

QuestionAnswer
1. Describe how the content of the team presentation was changed as a result of group discussion. We were going to add how social media affects specific ethnic groups, but we didn’t add it because we discussed that it might make the presentation go over the time limit.
2. Student A, how did the group decide to include Student B’s perspective/lens/ conclusions into the overall presentation? We decided to add Adam's perspective which was Cultural and social because that would really display the more personal impacts social media has on people rather than the broad view given by the political lens.
3. Student A, give one specific way that your thinking changed as a result of learning about Student B’s findings. My thinking changed dramatically when viewing Shardool's findings, specially his findings on social media for I did not think about how fake news and things that are not really going in the world could actually play out to be an important factor in it.
4. In the future, what changes would you make to your group norms, and how would you expect that to improve the team presentation. not wait until the last minute to finish the slides and to learn how to collaborate more effectively. This will improve the team presentation in that it will be less rushed, and the overall presentation will be more fluent and informative
5. Reflecting on your colleagues’ work, which one had the greatest impact on your overall understanding of the problem your group identified? Shardool’s work had the greatest impact because he introduced how prominent and effective fake news can be on social media platforms and how much they can affect the real world even if the information inside them is not real.
6. In what way did you improve your ability to work with a group as a result of this project? The way we improved our productivity by working in a group is that we kept an organized checklist/list of things we had to complete when creating the presentation by communicating through constructive criticism.
7. What is an example of a compelling argument from one of your peer’s individual reports that you decided to exclude from your team presentation and why? we left out different ways social media could specially cause health problems like depression, anxiety, etc. We decided to leave this argument out because we were worried about time
8. What is a way in which your team’s resolution makes you think differently about your own individual research? For me it showed how implementing just a few more rules and regulations towards social media could greatly moderate many things especially controversial topics and Media Bias
9. What was the strongest counter argument to the solution or conclusion your team identified and why? The strongest counter-argument to one of the solutions which required parental consent/Send notifications to the parent about social media usage is that one can escape this solution by making a fake account that their parents won’t know about.
10. Describe an argument from one of your peer’s individual reports that made you think differently about your team’s solution or conclusion? Adam's individual report on the cultural land social aspect of social media made me think about how not only does social media affect people directly but also it can affect people who hear about it from others and get pressured to do something similar.
11. Having finished your project, what if anything do you consider to be a gap in your team’s research that, if addressed, would make you feel more confident about your conclusion? the exclusion of information pertaining to cultural/social perspective. Although it was briefly discussed in the presentation, I think we would feel more confident by better supporting this specific aspect.
