Beads & Fillet Weld
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Arc Strike | A discontinuity consisting of localized melting of the base metal or finished weld caused by the initiation of an arc. It remains visible as a result of striking the arc outside the area to be welded and can lead to rejection of an otherwise good weld |
| Drag Angle | Describes the travel angle when the electrode is pointing in a direction opposite to the welding bead's progression |
| Push Angle | Describes the travel angle when the electrode is pointing in the same direction as the welding bead's progression |
| Restart | The action of restarting a weld bead that is already in progress that requires the crater left from the termination of the previous arc |
| Stringer Bead | A type of weld bead made without any significant weaving motion. With SMAW, the stringer beads are not more than three times the diameter of the electrode |
| Weave Bead | A type of weld bead made by transverse oscillation of the electrode in a particular pattern |
| Weld Coupon | Metal pieces to be welded together as a test or practice |
