7.1 nature of Light

Wave A period of back and forth motion that transmits energy
Crest The high point in a series of waves
Trough The low point in a series of waves
Wavelength The distance between two corresponding on successive waves
Amplitude The measure of the waves strength
Frequency The number of complete waves that pass by a point in a given amount of time
Hertz The SI unit of frequency
Speed The rate at which a wave travels
Particle theory of light The idea that light can be picture as streams of tiny particles emitted by light sources
Wave theory of light The idea that light consists of a series of waves rather than individual particles
Electromagnetic wave An electric field and a magnetic field vibrating at right angles to each other
Electromagnetic spectrum An arrangement of all forms of electromagnetic radiation in order of frequency and wavelength
Wave particle duality The two sided nature of light
The quantum theory of light This idea states that light consists of tiny bundles or packets of energy
Photons Little tiny bundles or packets of light
