QuestionAnswer
archaic: Referring to words and language that were once common but are now only rarely used.
argot: The informal vocabulary used by a particular class or group
connotation: The mental connections or associations suggested by a word that go beyond its literal meaning
denotation: The exact meaning of a word
idiom: An expression having a special meaning that is not clear from the usual meaning of the individual words in the expression
jargon: The specialized technical vocabulary used by people in the same profession or field.
pidgin: a simplified form of speech developed from two or more languages
semantics: The study of historical changes in the meanings of words.
standard: Conforming to established usage in speech or writing.
vernacular: The normal spoken language of a country or region as distinct from the literary or learned speech; everyday speech.
atlas: a book or bound collection of maps
epicure: a person of refined taste, especially in food or drink.
galvanize: To stir to action or awareness.
jovial: Full of fun and good cheer; sociable.
nemesis Someone or something that is the source of just punishment; an unbeatable rival
odyssey A long, adventurous, wandering journey.
a Phyrric victory: a victory that is offset by tragic losses or that comes at an excessive cost
quixotic: Full of impractical ideas; idealistic.
saturnine: gloomy and sullen.
