Introduction to Computer System

TermDefinition
Computer An electronic machine that is used for storing, organizing, and finding information
Monitor A device with a screen on which words or pictures can be shown
Case The enclosure that contains most of the components of a personal computer
Mouse A small device that you move across a surface in order to move a cursor on your computer screen
Speakers The part of computer for playing recorded sound, through which the sound is played
Keyboard The set of keys arranged in rows that you use to operate a computer
Cable A set of wires, covered by plastic, that carries electricity
Flash drive A small piece of equipment that you connect to a computer to copy and store information
Headphones A device with a part to cover each ear through which you can listen sth without other people hearing
Joystick A device that can be moved forwards, backwards, and sideways to control a machine or computer game
Laptop A computer that is small enough to be carried around easily and is flat when closed
Microphone A piece of equipment that you speak into to make your voice louder, or to record your voice or other sounds
Modem An electronic device that allows one computer to send information to another through standard phone lines and therefore over long distances
Tablet A small, flat computer that is controlled by touching the screen or by using a special pen
Webcam A camera that records moving pictures and sound and allows these to be broadcast on the internet as they happen
