central idea - is also called the main idea - the overall message of the text that a writer intends to convey to the audience
author's point of view - shows the reader the opinions or feelings of the author
author's purpose - the author's reason for writing - examples: to persuade the reader, to inform the reader, or entertain the reader
bias - an unfair personal opinion that influences your judgment
counterclaim - the opinions of those who might disagree with him or her
compare - to find the similarities
contrast - to find the differences
