Geometry Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Supplementary Angles Two angles whose measures add up to 180 degrees
Complementary Angles Two angles whose measures add up to 90 degrees
Straight Angle An angle that measures exactly 180 degrees
Vertex The point of intersection of the two rays that form an angle, the common endpoint of an angle
Adjacent Angles Two angles share a common side and a common vertex
Vertical Angles Two non-adjacent angles formed by the intersection of two lines, opposite angles
Congruent Angles Same angle in degrees
Acute Angle An angle who is smaller than 90 degrees
Obtuse Angle An angle that is more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees
Angle the figure formed by 2 rays sharing a vertex
Perpendicular Lines 2 lines that meet at a right angle
Right Angle Angle who measures exactly 90 degrees
Parallel Lines 2 lines that don't meet
Ray Line with a single endpoint
Segment Part of a line that is bounded by 2 end points
Transversal A line that cuts across 2 or more lines
Bisect Dividing Line of 2 lines
Corresponding When 2 lines are crossed by another line, the angles of the matching corners
Midpoint The point on a line segment that divides it into 2 equal parts
