values (n) ideas about what is important and how to live in a way that is good or right
customs (n) usual or accepted practices of a social group
prosperous (adj) having wealth, success or good fortune
thriving (adj) doing well or being successful
homeland (n) one's native country or region
sustain (v) to provide with the basic necessities of life; to keep something going or existing
subsistence (n) up from below
descendants (n) down, away from
conflict (n) argument or fight between two opposing sides
treaty (n) an agreement between two opposing sides; a document that explains the terms of the agreement
reservation (n) an area of land given to Native Americans by the US Government as payment for taking their land; government forced Native Americans to live here
plain words (n) words that are clear and easy to understand.

truce (n) an agreement by warring parties to stop fighting
grieved (v) felt great sadness
surrender (v) to give up; give into an other's power or demands
poverty (n) poor; not having enough food, property, or money
inadequate (adj) less than what is needed; not enough
betrayed (v) mislead; failed to fulfill hopes or expectations
justice (n) using the law to treat others fairly
misinterpretations to understand something badly or wrongly
liberty freedom to do or say what one thinks or feels
