| Deep vacuum | term used to describe a vacuum that is in the 50 to 250 range |
| Degassing | removal of noncondensable gases from a system during the evacuation process |
| Dehydrating | the removal of water vapor and moisture from a system during the evacuation process |
| Evacuation | process of removing moisture and noncondensable gases from an air conditioning system prior to stat up and charging |
| Micron | unit of linear measurement equal to 1/25,400 of an inch |
| Micron gauge | test instrument used to measure the level of vacuum in an air conditioning system |
| Noncondensable gases | gases that will not change from a vapor to a liquid within the normal pressure ranges |
| Sludge | organic solids made up of moisture, acid, and refrigeration oil |
| Two stage rotary vacuum pump | vacuum pump made up of two rotary pumps where the outlet of one pump id the inlet of the second |
| Vacuum | condition that is present when the pressure in a vessel is below atmospheric pressure, 0 psig. |
| Vacuum pump | piece of equipment used to reduce the pressure in an air conditioning system during the evacuation process |
| vacuum pump oil | oil specially designed for use in vacuum pumps |
