Sensory Details details that use the five senses
Thesis Statement the main idea in a whole piece of writing
Central Idea the main focus of the story
Coherence ideas that flow smoothly and consistently
Essay short piece of writing on a certain topic
Journal a daily record of events
Personal Narrative reference to one's life or experiences
Descriptive Writing a detailed writing that describes a person, place, or thing
Expository Writing is the type of writing we use to inform
Persuasive Writing to convince the reader to an idea or opinion
Supporting Details pieces of extra information that helps the main idea
Plagiarism taking someone else's ideas and using it as your own
Transitions words that connect ideas
Slang informal use of words
Voice the author's attitude
Subjective feeling and opinions
Objective straight forward facts
Primary Source the first hand information
Secondary Source handed down secondary information
Title/ Copyright Pages gives the title and when it was written
Table of Contents the outline of a book
Index at the end of a book gives the page numbers and an alphabetical list of names and subjects
Footnotes a piece of information printed at the bottom of a page
