G8 M1 Topic A vocab

Vocabulary words

TermDefinition
Base The number being multiplied by itself. The number immediately before the exponent.
Exponent Shows the number of times the base is multiplied by itself.
Coefficient A number used to multiply a variable.
Power The product of multiplying a number by itself.
Simplify The reduce the numerator and denominator to its smallest form.
Reciproal You flip a fraction. When they are multiplied together they equal 1. Also called the multiplicative Inverse.
Exponential notation A way of writing numbers that include the coefficient, base and the EXPONENT!
Expanded form A way to write a number by adding the digits. Writing it out the long way.
Scientific notation A method of expressing numbers in terms of a decimal number between 1 and 10 multiplied by the power of 10.
Estimating A reasonable guess to make calculations easier.
