equations and inequalities vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| additive inverse | When added they equal zero. They are opposite of each other. |
| identity | An equation that holds true for every value of the variable. |
| inequality | A mathematical relationship comparing the value of two expressions to determine whether one is greater, less or equal to the other. |
| multiplicative inverse | The number that, when multiplied by the original number, equals 1. They are reciprocals of each other. |
| addition property of equality ( add POE) | If you add the same number to both sides of an equation, the equation remains true. |
| subtraction property of equality ( subt. POE) | If you subtract the same number from both sides of an equation, the equation remains true. |
| multiplication property of equality ( multiply POE ) | If you multiply the same number from both sides of an equation, the equation remains true. |
| division property of equality ( division POE ) | If you divide the same number from both sides of an equation, the equation remains true. |
