Equations and Inequalities
| Term | Definition |

| Equation | A mathematical statement that has an equal sign. |
| Variable | A letter or symbol that represents a quantity. |
| Expression | A mathematical statement with NO equal sign. |
| Term | A part of an algebraic expression separated by +, -, or = |
| Coefficient | A number that multiplies a variable. |
| Algebraic Expression | A variable expression that contains at least one variable. |
| Solution Set | The answer(s) to a problem. |
| Inequality | A mathematical statement that has >, <, ≥, ≤. or ≠ |
| Open Circle | Symbol used to indicate the value is NOT included in the solution. |
| Closed Circle | Symbol used to indicate the value is included in the solution. |
| > | Greater Than. |
| < | Less Than. |
| ≥ | Greater than or equal to, at least, or the minimum |
| ≤ | Less than or equal to, at most, or the maximum |
| ≠ | Not equal to. |
| Inverse | Another word for "opposite". |
