Circles Review

TermDefinition
Circle A round plane figure whose boundary (the circumference) consists of points equidistant from a fixed point (the center)
Radius A straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle or sphere
Chord A line segment connecting two points on a curve.
Inscribed Angle An angle formed by two chords in a circle which have a common endpoint
Arc A part of the circumference of a circle
Circumference The enclosing boundary of a curved geometric figure, especially a circle
Area The number of square units inside a circle.
Diameter A straight line passing from side to side through the center of a body or figure, especially a circle or sphere.
Tangent A straight line or plane that touches a curve or curved surface at a point
Secant Astraight line that cuts a curve in two or more parts
