4th-5th Grade Geometry Vocabulary

Point An exact location
Line Is straight, has no bends, and extends in both directions without end
Line Segment Part of a line that connects two points
Ray A line with a single endpoint
Plane A flat, two-dimensional surface that extends infinitely far
Intersecting Lines Two lines that intersect (cross) but do not form right angles
Parallel Lines Two lines that will never intersect
Perpendicular Lines Two lines that intersect and form right angles
Right Angle An angle that measures 90°
Obtuse Angle An angle that measures more than 90°
Acute Angle An angle that measures less than 90°
Vertex Point at which two line segments intersect (forming an angle)
Scalene Triangle A triangle with all three sides with different lengths
Isosceles Triangle A triangle with two equal length sides (and two equal internal angles)
Equilateral Triangle A triangle with all three sides of equal length (each internal angles = 60°)
Rhombus A quadrilateral in which opposite sides are parallel and all four sides are of equal length
Rectangle A quadrilateral with four right-angles and opposite sides that are parallel
Square A quadrilateral with equal-length sides forming four right-angles
Parallelogram A quadrilateral in which each of the two pairs of opposite sides are parallel
Trapezoid A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides
Quadrilateral A four-sided polygon
Polygon A figure with at least three straight sides and angles, and typically five or more
