The Holocaust The mass murder of more than 6 million jew' s under the German regime during the period 1941 to 1945
Anti-Semitism hostility to or prejudice against Jew's
Bystander A person who is present at an event or incident but does not take part
Propaganda Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view
concentration camp A place where large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately in prison in a small area with inadequate facilities, sometimes provided forced labor or to await mass execution
genocide the killing of a large group of people, especially those of particular ethic group or nation.
Ghetto an isolated or segregated group or area
Ally a state formally cooperating with another for a military or other purpose, typically by treaty. a person or organization that cooperates with or helps another in a particular activity.
dehumanization the process of depriving a person or group of positive human qualities.
barracks (“A Walk Through Horror”)-a building or group of buildings used to house soldiers.
resistance (“A Walk Through Horror”) the act of setting someone free from imprisonment, slavery, or oppression; release
schlep (Maus, Chapter 4)-haul or carry (something heavy or awkward). (of a person) go or move reluctantly or with effort.
neurotic (Maus, Chapter 5-6)-abnormally sensitive, obsessive, or tense and anxious, panicking.
caricature (Maus, Chapter 5)-a ludicrous or grotesque version of someone or something.
pragmatic (Maus, Chapter 6)-dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.
recuperate (Maus)-recover from illness or exertion; recover or regain (something lost or taken).
persecute (Maus)-subject (someone) to hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of their race or political or religious beliefs.
smuggle (Maus)-convey (someone or something) somewhere secretly and illicitly; move (goods) illegally into or out of a country.
diverge (“The Road Not Taken”)-separate from another route, especially a main one, and go in a different direction
