What was the theory of relativity? Albert Einstein’s ideas about the interrelationships between time and space and between energy and matter.
Who was Sigmund Freud? Austrian psychiatrist and founder of psychoanalysis; he treated hysteria using hypnosis and believed that complexes of repressed and forgotten impressions underlie all abnormal mental states.
What was Existentialism? a philosophy based on the idea that people give meaning to their lives through their choices and actions.
Who was Friedrich Nietzsche? German scholar and philosopher; he wanted people to return to ancient heroic ideals of pride and strength; he championed nihilism.
What is Surrealism? A 20th-century artistic movement that focuses on the workings of the unconscious mind.
How did transportation improve after WW1? Airplanes were used for passengers and cars were a lot cheaper, allowing more people to travel around a lot faster.
What was the Wheimer Republic? The republic that was established in Germany in 1919 and ended in 1933.
Why was the German currency worth nothing at the time? Germany printed a lot of money, decreasing the worth of each dollar.
Why did people need wheelbarrows of cash just to buy simple goods? The German cash was worth little to nothing.
What was the name of the American Banker who decided to help Germany during their economic crisis? Charles Dawes
What caused the economic crisis for America? Farmers couldn't pay off debts, banks got weak due to the loss of money and had to shut down, and factories were overproducing goods.
Who is Benito Mussolini? Italian Fascist leader; he ruled as Italy’s dictator for more than 20 years beginning in 1922. His alliance with Hitler brought Italy into World War II.
How do dictators usually rise up to power? There's usually a crisis and people want a quick fix.
What is propaganda? The system in which you block certain information and allow other information to be released to the public.
What was Benito Mussolini's new name? II Duce
Who is Adolf Hitler? Totalitarian dictator of Germany; his invasion of European countries led to World War II. He espoused notions of racial superiority and was responsible for the mass murder of millions of Jews and others in the Holocaust.
What is Nazism? The fascist policies of the National Socialist German Workers’ party, based on totalitarianism, a belief in racial superiority, and state control of industry.
What was Hitler's referred as? Führer
Who wrote Mein Kampf? Hitler
What is Mein Kampf “My Struggle”—a book written by Adolf Hitler during his imprisonment in 1923–1924, in which he set forth his beliefs and his goals for Germany.
What does Lebensraum mean? “living space”—the additional territory that, according to Adolf Hitler, Germany needed because it was overcrowded.
What were the Communists blamed for? They were blamed for the burning of the Reichstag building.
