Ocean Tides

Neap tide occurs at the first and third (last) quarter Moon phases; the Sun is at a right angle to the Moon
Spring tide occurs at the full and new Moon phases; Earth, Moon, and Sun are in alignment pulling the water in the same direction
Tide the rising and falling of the oceans due to the gravitational attraction of the Moon and Sun; usually occurs twice each day
Tidal ranges the difference between levels of ocean water at high tide and low tide
Tides the daily movements of ocean water that change the level of the ocean's surface
high tides highest tides due to the pull of gravity from the moon on Earth's water
low tides lowest tides due to the pull of gravity from the moon on Earth's water
neap tides tides with minimum daily tidal range that occur during the first and third quarter moon phases; occur when the sun, Earth, and moon form a 90 degree angle.
spring tides tides with maximum daily tidal range that occur during the new and full moons and when the sun, Earth, and moon are in alignment with one another
