| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Energy Transformation | change of energy from one form to another; |
| Forms of Energy | electrical, thermal, nuclear, mechanical, electromagnetic, sound, and chemical. |
| Chemical energy | potential of a chemical substance to undergo a transformation through a chemical reaction to transform other chemical substances. Examples include batteries, food, gasoline |
| Electrical energy | The movement of charged particles through a wire or other medium |
| Light energy | form of electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength, which can be seen by the human eye. It is a type of kinetic energy which travels in waves |
| Thermal energy | energy an object has because of the movement of its molecules; can transfer the heat energy to other objects |
| Nuclear energy | use the heat released from fission, or splitting of a uranium atom, to make electricity |
| Mechanical energy | the energy which is possessed by an object due to its motion (kinetic energy) or its stored energy of position (potential energy) |
| Electromagnetic energy | waves that contain an electric field and a magnetic field and carry energy |
| Sound energy | produced when a force causes an object or substance to vibrate and transferred through the substance in a wave |
