Math Vocabulary Benchmark 2

TermDefinition
Decimal A part of a whole number.
Fraction The greatest factor that divides two numbers.
Improper Fraction A fraction in which the numberator is larger than the denominator.
Equivalent Fractions Fractions that are equal.
Greatest Common Factor The greatest factor that divides two numbers.
Whole Number A number that can be divided by another number without a remainder.
Mixed Number A whole number and a fraction.
Multiple The product of two numbers being multiplied.
Sum The answer to an addition problem.
Numerator The number above the fraction line which shows the parts taken from the whole.
Denominator The number below the fraction line which shows the whole amount.
Benchmark Fraction Commonly used fractions that you can judge other numbers against.
Least Common Multiple The lowest quantity that is a multiple of two or more quantities.
Visual Fraction Model A visual model demonstrating the part of the whole.
Decomposition Breaking apart a fraction into its equal units.
Factors Two numbers that, when multiplied together, equal another number, or product.
Prime Number A number greater than 1 that has only 2 factors, 1 and itself.
Composite Number A number that has more than 2 factors.
Tenths One of ten equal parts.
Hundreths One of hundred equal parts.
