| angle of elevation | the angle of elevation is the angle measured upwards from the horizontal |
| angle of depression | the angle of depression is the angle measured downwards from the horizontal |
| one degree | equals 60 minutes |
| one minute | equals 60 seconds |
| hypotenuse | the side opposite the right angle |
| area of a triangle | half the product of the two sides multiplied by the sine of the angle between the two sides |
| sine rule | used in a non right angled triangle given two sides and an angle opposite one of the given sides or two angles and one side |
