Who are the main characters? Fanny Mcoy: Narrator, youngest, smart, sassy, loyal. Ro Mcoy: Prettiest, smart, loyal to the ones she loves, evil.
Who is the narrator? Fanny Mcoy
What is the setting? Kentucky and WV late 1800s.
Why was Fanny being the youngest important to the story? She knew things and saw things being the youngest that others didn’t. ( Example: Yeller thing )
Who was Fanny’s favorite brother? Tolbert
Which brother made toys and moonshine? Floyd
Why did Alafair hate Fanny? She was young and still had her whole life ahead of her, Alafair hated herself.
Why did Devil Anse kill Tolbert, Bud, and Pharmer? His brother Ellison died after a fight with the brothers.
Fanny has her loyalities divided between? Ro and the rest of the family.
What kinds of style elements does Rinaldi use in the book? Dialect, Vivid descriptions, colorful comparisons.
What is Yeller thing and why does he come to Fanny throughout the book. He looks like a wolf, a bear, and a painter cat, yellow, stinky, he comes to warn her of trouble.
Describe Fanny’s behavior after the attack on her house. She wouldn’t talk, eat, wandered outside to milk the cows, was confused, talked to the cat.
Why did Johnese and Roseanna think they could be married? They thought their families loved them too much to stop them.
How did Fanny’s reaction to Yeller Thing change over the course of the novel? At first she was afraid of him but as the story went on, she knew he was only there to warn her of something bad happening.
The relationship between Fanny and Ro changed throughout the book. How did it begin? Be able to tell it’s evaluation and analyze how it affected the outcome of the story. (Response Question) At first Ro and Fanny were very close living in the same bedroom, her loving her enough to lie for her, snuck around, etc. However, after the story progressed Fanny started to dislike her after putting Mcoy names on the Coffin Quilt, she knew she was evil
