QuestionAnswer
One-act play is what? An entire play in a single location with continuous action.
Acts are what? The main divisions of a full length play.
Scenes are what? The further divisions of acts (location change or new character).
Conversions are? Acts/scenes transitions that are familiar techniques accepted by audiences.
Setting is? A single location
Suspense is? An anxious, uncertain feeling. sometimes occurs when characters enter.
Exposition is what? The providing of necessary background information about characters and setting.
Dialogue is what? The verbal exchange between characters.
Conflict is what? Struggle between characters.
Plot is what? The arrangement of actions in a play to suggest focus and emphasis.
Subplot is what? The secondary action that reinforces or contrasts with the main plot.
The protagonist is who? The central character that audiences identify with.
The antagonist is who? The character who opposes the protagonist.
Stage directions are what? Playwright's instructions for actor's movements and behavior.
Pyramidal pattern is what? A plot divided into 3 parts.
Rising action is what? When a complication creates conflict for the protagonist.
The climax is what? When action reaches a final crisis.
Crisis is? a turning point that has an affect on the protagonist
Falling action is what? When tensions are diminished in the resolution.
Resolution is what? (conclusion) denouement-unknotting) end of conflict
A foil is what? A character whose behavior/values contrast with that of the protagonist.
The theme is what? The central idea or meaning of the play.
